A morning of gratitude – Abbotts & Co Lawyers supports Australia's Biggest Morning Tea

On Thursday 21 May 2026, the team from Abbotts & Co Lawyers spent the morning at the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute in Coffs Harbour, taking part in Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, with the aim to raise funds for Cancer Council NSW.

A morning of community and connection

Setting up a small stall at the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute, we offered yummy cakes, slices and biscuits for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going directly to Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea campaign. The treats were generously donated by the Pink Ladies Coffee Shop at Coffs Harbour Health Campus – a volunteer-run cafe that supports the hospital community. When we reached out, they didn't hesitate to get involved!

Cancer Council Community Coordinator Kerry Piper was with us on the day, and we were proud to wear Cancer Council pins in support of such an important cause.

Kerry and our team were invited to attend a garden-themed morning tea taking place on the same day with staff at the cancer unit. We contributed a garden-themed cake from The Cheesecake Shop Coffs Harbour – decorated in Abbotts & Co colours with floral shaped icing details and Cancer Council flags – as a small gesture of appreciation for the work they carry out every day for patients and families going through treatment.

Following the morning tea, Cancer Council and Abbotts and Co Lawyers were given a tour of the Cancer Institute’s treatment facilities. This was an invaluable opportunity to witness the important works of the facility and the advancements which are being made to improve the treatments and care provided to those within our community living with cancer.

Why we work with the Cancer Council NSW

Abbotts & Co Lawyers has an ongoing relationship with Cancer Council NSW through its Legal Referral Service where we assist individuals and families affected by cancer with urgent estate planning needs. This includes preparing Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Enduring Guardianships to those who may otherwise be unable to afford or otherwise access these important legal services.

It's safe to say that this is some of the most meaningful work we do, and it's given us a real appreciation for the broader network of people who show up for cancer patients every day. Being part of Australia's Biggest Morning Tea felt like a natural extension of our connection to the Cancer Council and our wider community.

"What a wonderful morning it was and the generosity of Abbotts & Co is enormous, thank you so much for all that you do for Cancer Council and involving us on the day you celebrated the Cancer Unit workers. Our cancer clients in the Coffs district are blessed to have you on their side."

– Kerry Piper, Cancer Council Community Coordinator

A special thank you

Abbotts and Co Lawyers managed to raise over $600 for Cancer Council NSW, which well and truly exceeded our fundraising goal.

We wish to extend a massive thanks to the Pink Ladies Coffee Shop volunteers, Kerry and the Cancer Council team, The Cheesecake Shop Coffs Harbour, and everyone at the Cancer Institute who made the morning so memorable.

"Cancer touches all of us, in one way or another, and the Cancer Council is such a pillar of support to our community. It's important for our firm to do what we can to assist and play a supportive role to their important works, be that through a biggest morning tea, or as a participant in their Pro Bono legal program..."
