Question time! Getting to know Allie β our Lawyer at Abbotts & Co Lawyers.
What was the first job you ever had and has it provided any skills/ experience you still use today?
I was a checkout gal at the local IGA. This was (long) before self-checkout was brought in. I can still scan and pack exceptionally well.
My first job in law was as a legal assistant, then a paralegal. It was in these roles I learnt the vast majority of my legal practical skills.
What led you to the legal industry β why did you become a lawyer? Did you ever consider a different path?
I became a lawyer because Iβve always had a strong sense of justice and a deep belief that everyone deserves to be treated fairly.
The law is meant to be the great equaliser. It binds us all, regardless of someoneβs culture, religion, social status or wealth. But in reality, not everyone has the same access to it and thatβs what drove me to be a lawyer.
How do you turn a bad day into a good day? OR how do you unwind at the end of the day/ weekβ¦
Bad days can be turned around with water. Beach, pool, hot shower or even a bucket of water in the yard for the kids.
I unwind by watching the sunset. Sunsets always bring me a sense of calm.
What is a compliment that you have received that you are most proud of?
βYou smell nice!β
Best piece of advice you have ever received (or the worst).
You can learn something from anyone. You just have to listen. Worst - sleep when the baby sleeps. That one is so bad on so many levels.
If you could turn one mundane daily task into an Olympic sport, what would you win gold at?
Speed cleaning.
If you had to sum up the pictures on your phone in three words, it would be β¦
Kids, dogs and sunsets.
What three things will you always find in your fridge/ pantry β canβt live without.
Coffee, chocolate, oat milk. In fact, coffee is a constant companion and the real MVP of my family!
What one meal do you think you have perfected?
Miso Ramen.
What is one legal/ latin term which you love to use/ try to find any excuse to drop into conversation etc?
Appellate jurisdiction. I first heard this term in year 10 and have been fond of it ever since.
